Rev. Kenneth Baker, Pastor

Pastor Ken is a fully ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church.  Pastoring is his second career; before that, he spent 25 years in the residential remodeling industry, beginning as an apprentice, working his way up, and spending the majority of his years as a hands-on project manager.  During that time, he gained a great deal of experience meeting and working with a broad range of people – everyone from helpers and laborers, subcontactors, architects and designers, not to mention a broad range of upper-middle class to considerably wealthy clients.  This experience has allowed Pastor Ken an ability to interact well with many different types of people.
Hearing God’s call into ministry in his middle years, Pastor Ken entered into ministerial studies at Saint Paul School of Theology, in Kansas City, earning his Master of Divinity degree in 2006.  While in seminary, Ken began serving as a pastor in 2003. Upon graduation from seminary, Pastor Ken completed the ordination process, and was formally ordained by Bishop Scott Jones on June 5, 2009. Ken has been serving churches as a pastor for about 15 years, now.
Pastor Ken has a great love for Wesleyan theology and doctrine, and places a lot of emphasis on God’s love and God’s grace, in effecting the transformation of individuals into the image of Jesus Christ, as well as transforming the world.
Outside of the Church, Pastor Ken serves as Vice-President of the Eureka Area Ministerial Alliance, is a proud member of the Lions Club, participates in a jail-based bible study, has served on the Board of the Eureka Disaster Relief Committee, as well as participating in the life of the community through parades, multiple service projects, and especially loves going to the kids’ and youths’ games and concerts.
When he’s not involved in the life of the Church, Pastor Ken can be found raising hot peppers and tomatoes in the garden, doing a little occasional fishing, and relaxing with his gigantic parsonage cats, “Big Kitty” and “Shady.” Ken and his wife recently celebrated 41 years of marriage, and have raised two brilliant, beautiful, and outstanding daughters, both of whom are preparing for marriage. Hobbies include woodworking, a little metal working, and smoking the best BBQ in the Great Plains. Ken currently has three smokers (one of which is a full-sized towable cooker), as well as a huge wood-fired, tow behind grill he designed and built himself over the course of a recent summer.

Joanie Cain, Office Administrator

Joanie was born and raised in Greenwood County where several generations of her family have lived.
She graduated from Kansas State University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Ecology. Although she did not pursue a career in that area of study, God has blessed her with a variety of office administrative positions which have all been instrumental in qualifications for her position as Office Administrator. Joanie believes that God calls us to whatever our positions are in the workforce. She began as a church secretary in 2006 for two other churches and has since realized that this is not only a job, but a calling and ministry to God.
She enjoys the fact that she can be creative in what she does, creating bulletins, event flyers, newsletters, etc. She says the work she does is never boring.
In her spare time she is a TEAM leader for Celebrate Recovery, serves on the Eureka Area Ministerial Alliance Board, crochets prayer shawls, and creates a variety of crafts.
She’s excited about the future of First United Methodist Church.
